PRIMARY FUNCTION:
An exciting and rewarding position at the Corporate Research & Technology (CRT) - China for Eaton Corporation, searching for a Senior Engineer in Power Conversion area. The successful candidate will be reporting to the CRT-China Global Technology Platform Manager of the Power Conversion, based in Shanghai.
As an individual contributor, the Senior Engineer is expected to support developing and evaluating new technologies, support developing business cases for innovation projects, and present ideas and projects to colleagues and management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Leads important project sub-tasks. Participates in Technology Exploration projects.
B. Acts as a key technical contributor in projects with supporting role, or as a project manager of small scale projects with approximately USD 30-50K annual budget responsibility.
C. As an individual contributor, collaborates with global project team of engineers and scientists (CRT engineers and Contractors) from CRT locations in US, China, India, and Europe.
D. Works effectively with Eaton businesses and external partners.
E. BOC: Acts as assignment manager of CRT interns. Provide guidance to contractors and technicians.
F. Participates in project collaboration with external partners (e.g., universities, national labs, etc.)
G. Understands department (Tech Platform) and CRT technology strategies.
H. Create project plans, manage budgets and resources, and deliver results on-budget and on-schedule.
I. Present complex technical ideas and business cases to BU stakeholders on a regular basis.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Education/Experience:
• MS degree in Engineering or Science, or equivalent, with at least 3 year experience from similar innovation or R&D organizations. – required.
• Overseas experience (e.g., degrees, exchange research program) highly preferred.
Technical:
• Technical excellence in Power Conversion and Motor Control area, with demonstrated technical expertise in at least two of the following areas – required:
o Topology (AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC, AC/AC)
o Controls
o Magnetics
o EMC/EMI
o Motor control algorithm
o Semiconductor devices
o Embedded controls and systems
o Monitoring and diagnostic technology for electric motor, power electronic system, or power system.
• Basic understanding of electrical power systems (conventional & alternative electrical power generation, power distribution, power conversion, electromechanical loads) – required.
• Hands-on experience on development, prototyping, and validation of power electronics or motor systems – required
• Proficient utilization of at least two of the following tool chains – required:
o System modeling: Matlab/Simulink, PSim, PSCAD, Ansoft Simplorer
o Control prototyping: LabView, dSpace, RTOS
o CAD: AutoCAD, UG, SolidWorks
o CAE: Ansys, Maxwell, Fluent, CFX
o Programming: C / C++
• Background in signal processing and controls – preferred.
• Technical publications and invention record – highly preferred.
Professional:
• Proven track record in delivering tasks or projects on time and on budget. – required.
• Basic understanding of the following critical innovation processes: – required
o PreLaunch (or equivalent product-proceeding technology development process)
o Technology Exploration
• Experience to lead important project sub-tasks and participate in Technology Explorations. – required.
• English communication (oral and written) skills need to be proficient enough to handle regular project discussions with native English speakers. – required.
• Strong interpersonal and team playing skills – required.
• Experience in advanced technology or product development – highly preferred.
