PRIMARY FUNCTION:
An exciting and rewarding position at the Corporate Research and Technology - China for Eaton, a Global, Diversified Industrial Company. Searching for a Lead Engineer in Power Conversion to generate innovative ideas; identify market opportunities, evaluate and develop new technologies, develop business cases, present ideas and projects to Eaton business groups. Profound technical knowledge and a potential for business acumen is required to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will be directly reporting to the Technology Manager of Power Conversion.
Primary functions for this position include:
• Create innovative power conversion and control product concepts/prototypes based on breakthrough technologies for electrical, industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications, as a technical lead and as a team member.
• Identify, analyze, and validate advanced power conversion technologies in the areas of power electronics; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; vehicle/aircraft electrification; and LED lighting.
• Contribute to technology development projects and work with teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (Divisions and Universities)
• Understand the process of mapping technology solutions to market opportunities.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Identify, analyze, and validate core technologies in at least one of the following areas: power electronics; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; vehicle/aircraft electrification; and LED lighting.
B. Work in conjunction with Eaton product and engineering divisions to successfully develop and transfer technology.
C. Support project managers to develop business cases, conduct voice-of-the-customer interviews, and collect market data.
D. Collaborate with multi-cultural distributed teams on multi-disciplinary research and product development.
E. Identify potential outside technologies from universities and research institutes (both China and overseas).
F. Execute project plans and deliver results on-budget and on-schedule.
G. Present complex technical ideas to stakeholders and senior management on a regular basis.
H. Contribute to government contract proposal preparation and technical publications.
I. Understand department and CRT technology strategy.
J. Acquire knowledge base of products, technologies, manufacturers, and businesses to support divisional and operational activities.
K. Respond to other tasks at request from management.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
Education/Experience:
• PhD degree preferred, in Electrical Engineering or related field, from top universities.
• MS degree in related field with at least 5 years’ experience required, from similar innovation or R&D organizations of major MNCs.
• Overseas experience (e.g., degrees, exchange research program) highly preferred.
Technical:
• Broad understanding of electrical power systems (conventional & alternative electrical power generation, power distribution, power conversion, electromechanical loads) – required.
• Demonstrated technical expertise in at least two of the following areas – required:
o AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power converter topologies, design and control strategies.
o Magnetics in power electronics, including high frequency transformer, high frequency inductor, CT, hall sensor.
o EMI/EMC analysis and filter design.
o Algorithm implementation and verification in embedded platforms.
• General knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution – required.
• Experience in renewable/alternative energy, smart grid/micro-grid, UPS, telecom power, server power, energy storage, vehicle/aircraft electrification, or LED lighting driver – preferred.
• Strong background in signal processing, pattern recognition, data mining & classification – preferred.
• Strong technical publication and invention record – highly preferred.
Professional:
• Good English communication (oral and written) and presentation skills – required.
• Strong interpersonal and team playing skills – required.
• Advanced creative problem solving abilities – required.
• Program management experience – preferred.
• Experience in taking technologies from concepts to demonstrating product applications – highly preferred.
