PRIMARY FUNCTION:
An exciting and rewarding position at the Corporate Research and Technology - China for Eaton, a Global, Diversified Industrial Company. Searching for an Engineering Specialist in Power Conversion to initiate and lead innovation programs; identify market opportunities, evaluate and develop new technologies, develop business cases, acquire resources and internal/external funding, lead customer relationships, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders and external customers. A unique blend of broad technical knowledge and business acumen is required to be successful in this position. The successful candidate will be directly reporting to the Technology Manager of Power Conversion.
Primary functions for this position include:
•Create innovative power conversion and control product concepts/prototypes based on breakthrough technologies for electrical, industrial, automotive, truck, and aerospace applications, as a technical lead and as a team member.
•Identify, analyze, and validate advanced power conversion technologies in the areas of power electronics; motor control; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; vehicle electrification; aerospace electrification; hydraulics electrification; and LED lighting.
•Lead technology development projects and manage teams (local and remote resources) and external technology resources (Divisions and Universities)
•Lead and improve the process of mapping technology solutions to market opportunities.
•Coordinate & manage multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural globally distributed teams.
Essential Functions:
A. Identify, analyze, and validate core technologies in at least one of the following areas: power electronics; motor control; energy storage; alternative power generation and distribution; vehicle electrification; aerospace electrification; hydraulics electrification; and LED lighting.
B. Lead customer relationship with Eaton product and engineering divisions to successfully develop and transfer technology.
C. Develop business cases, conduct voice-of-the-customer interviews, collect market data.
D. Coordinate and manage multi-cultural distributed teams on multi-disciplinary research and product development.
E. Identify, initiate and manage projects with universities and research institutes (both China and overseas).
F. Create project plans, manage budgets and resources, and deliver results on-budget and on-schedule.
G. Present complex technical ideas and business cases to stakeholders and senior management on a regular basis.
H. Lead government contract proposal preparation and technical publications.
I. Provide input to technology strategy planning for future growth opportunities.
J. Maintain subject matter expertise on products, technologies, manufacturers, and businesses to support divisional and operational activities.
K. Respond to other tasks at request from management.
Specialized Knowledge:
Education/Experience:
•PhD degree preferred, in Electrical Engineering or related field, from top universities, with 3-5 years’ experience.
•MS degree in related field with 8-10 years experience required, in similar innovation or R&D organizations from major MNCs.
•Overseas experience (e.g., degrees, exchange research program) highly preferred.
Technical:
• Demonstrated technical expertise in power electronics and motor control – required.
•Profound understanding of electrical power systems (conventional & alternative electrical power generation, power distribution, power conversion, electromechanical loads) – required.
•Experience in at least two of the following areas: renewable/alternative energy, smart grid/micro-grid, energy storage, vehicle/aircraft electrification, UPS, telecom power, server power, LED lighting, VFD, or smart home and energy efficient building technologies – required.
•Strong background in signal processing, pattern recognition, data mining & classification – preferred.
•System-level mindset in the following areas – preferred.
- System integration of electrical power, protection, conversion and control technologies
- System level power distribution, management and protection modeling
- Utility smart grid applications and how end energy users can support and benefit from this changing dynamic
•Strong technical publication and invention record – highly preferred.
Professional:
•Proven track record in taking technologies from concepts to demonstrating product applications – required.
•Program management experience – required.
•Demonstrated tenacity and flexibility to reliably achieve goals – required.
•Excellent English communication (oral and written) and presentation skills – required.
•Team building and management experience and highly effective interpersonal skills – highly preferred.
